The Adventure. Part 1.

Some Kind of Particles

At the time, I lived in an apartment complex, everybody shared one dumpster. One day as I was taking out the trash, I found a Casio CTK541 leaned up against that dumpster. I immediately took it home to find that it wasn’t broken, though it was covered in fingernail polish and all sorts of paint, everything worked just fine. As I do with all used items I acquire..I sanitized the heck out of it before testing it out. That test run is what turned into the piano parts for Some Kind of Particles. This song was written to be an intro to a video game. Before the title screen, where you’re seeing the developers name on the screen, this song starts playing. If you let everything load, where the piano comes in would be when the title screen has fully played its cinematic and the “press start” prompt appears. I always imagined an indie game with similar vibes to Minecraft or Stardew Valley would be a good fit for this track, and Magenta entirely. I used a Korg Minilogue XD for all of the pads and leads heard in the track. One of those pads changed the feel of the track entirely and without it, it would have lacked 75% of the tension of the final track. I used the Korg and the Casio entirely for this track. I’m pretty sure everything was mixed in Reaper, as the piano parts were done live and not sequenced.

Part 2 will be coming soon!
